According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer, other than skin cancer, and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. The American Cancer Society estimates that one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, and one in 36 will die from it.
Now, those men who always find a good excuse to not visit their doctor, like cost, don’t have any excuses! This is FREE! Forrest General Hospital encouraged men to take action for their health by offering consultations with a nurse on prostate cancer at the Forrest General Cancer Center. This took place at the end of September as part of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Nurses talked with participants about whether they need to follow up with a screening with their primary health professional. Eligible participants received a free voucher for a Prostate Specific Antigen screening at the Forrest General Clinical Lab.
