In celebration of National Nurses Week 2012, Highland Community Hospital honored three of outstanding nurses as Nurse of the Year, We C.A.R.E. Nurse of the Year and Rookie Nurse of the Year. Highland is fortunate to feature the skills of more than 109 Registered Nurses (RNs) and 5 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). At a celebration held on May 8, 2012 for nurses hospital-wide, Nurse of the Year was awarded to Janelle Imhoff, RN, who works in Highland’s Obstetrics Unit. Melissa Elrod, RN, who works in the hospital’s Medical Surgical Unit, was honored as We C.A.R.E. Nurse of the Year. Rookie Nurse of the Year, awarded to a nurse who has only worked at the hospital for a short time, was given to Amy Leah Sheasby, RN, who also works in Obstetrics. Congratulations!
Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, who comprise the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care.
